Course Overview:

Does your co-worker seem to be speaking a language you don't understand? Is your boss impossible to get along with? Are you having a hard time motivating one of your employees? The key could be that their personality and yours don't mesh. This course will explore personality theories and allow you to discover your own personality and how that affects the way you think and work. You will also explore how other personalities think and work and some communication and motivational tools you can use to be able to work better with them.

Students will:
  • explore various personality theories and identify their types for each one.
  • identify ways their personality types affect the way they work, act and think.
  • identify ways to work with people with personality styles different from their own.
  • reflect on what they have learned and apply it to their own work or personal relationships.

Course Outline:

Lesson 1:  Personality Types

In this lesson we will take a quick tour of some of the more popular theories of categorizing how people think, act and learn. Many of these theories are more strongly related to learning styles and have been used to improve teaching and learning practices, but you can easily see how these can be applied to business and social situations as well.

Lesson 2:  Working with Your Style

Our personality style affects many aspects of our lives from whether we are a morning person, whether or not we like working alone, whether we like to read or listen to new information and even what we like to wear. In this lesson we will learn more about who we are and how we relate to world as a way of better understanding what makes us tick.

Lesson 3:  Working with Other Styles

In this lesson we will learn more about how to discern what makes others tick, and how to deal with them effectively..

Lesson 4:  Looking Back, Looking Ahead

In this lesson we will take a look at back at what we have learned and look ahead to how we can use what we have learned in our lives.
